Digital Media A1 - Hawaiian Shirt
Introduction:
Tasked with using skills in creating patterns and ability with the pen tool, we were required to create a mockup Hawaiian shirt.  Inspired by H.P Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu, I aimed to make a Hawaiian shirt themed after our friendly Old One, Cthulhu.
Materials:
Adobe Illustrator
Step 1:
Starting with a template Hawaiian shirt, I used the pen tool to trace each piece individually, from the sleeves to the collar to the back of the shirt, each part was traced into its own object.  This allowed me to later fill in each part of the shirt with its own pattern.
Step 2:
After finishing the tracing of the shirt, I then went to create my pattern that would be used for the shirt.  Starting by creating a logo I created the base of my pattern.  I would then go to create several variants of a single pattern, to give the shirt some variety so it didn't have the same pattern across the entirety of the shirt.
Logo of Cthulhu to be used as a base for the patterns of the Hawaiian shirt.  Created in illustrator using the pen tool and various gradients of dark and light greens.
Step 3:
After creating my various patterns, I then returned to my traced Hawaiian shirt which at this point looked like nothing more than a jumble of intersecting lines.  Filling each part individually with a base dark green, I would duplicate each piece and then add the pattern overtop.  For some parts, specifically the inside of the shirt and the back collar, I duplicated a third time which I used as a sort of filter to lighten or darken the section.
Completed shirt with buttons and a tag, back of collar and inside of shirt darkened or lightened to distinguish them from rest of the shirt.
Step 4:
After finishing the shirt, I added buttons and a tag created by using the pathfinder tool and a couple strokes for threads which I placed along the shirt to make everything nice and tidy.
Conclusion:
In the end, I am quite proud with how it turned out, although I would have liked to have made the shirt a little more colourful, instead of almost entirely consisting of various shades of green.  Due to previous experience with Adobe Illustrator, I feel this assignment was effective in refreshing me on skills I already had and testing skills I had newly acquired.
